About this web site

Growing up in the nineties, film was how I took pictures. I took photos of my friends, at concerts and on vacation. I never thought too much about the cameras I used. I mostly used whatever was cheapest, either disposable cameras or what we now call “reusable disposables”- simple cameras with fixed focus and plastic lenses. When digital point and shoot cameras became affordable, I bought one and never looked back.

In 2015 I found an old camera at an antiques shop in Brattleboro, Vermont. It was an “Erabox” box camera from Zeiss Ikon. The camera was beautiful and interesting. It was cheap, too. I like to have old and attractive things, I have always been a collector. I thought the camera would look good among the items on my shelves.

After buying the camera I was surprised to learn that it was still possible to get film for it. I thought I might try taking some photos with it, just to try it out. The photos came out blurry. I thought maybe it was just not a good camera. Perhaps another, similar camera might yield better results?

Ten years later I have well over 150 antique and vintage cameras.

On this web site I will make posts about the cameras and the photos I take with them as well as occasional posts about other projects. I used to share this stuff on social media, but changes to those platforms in recent years have erased most of the fun. I can’t find my old posts anymore. This web site will be a more enduring thing.
