The first version of the Box Tengor appeared in 1927. This one, designated the Box Tengor 54, appeared in 1931. Unlike the more common 54/2 model, which made 8 9×9 cm negatives on 120 film, this one made 16 4.5×6 cm negatives, also on 120. Not only the negatives are smaller- the camera itself is smaller than the 54/2. This example is very well worn, showing a lot of use. It came in a pouch of thin leather that shows old repairs and is virtually worn out.

This model of camera has some notable advantages over the much more common 6×9 format. The smaller camera is easier to carry around, and getting twice as many exposures per roll is economical. The photos from this camera are beautiful and have a unique quality. Here are some local shots with this camera, from my home town.

And some vacation snapshots.
