This model of Zeiss-Ikon Box Tengor 54/2 was made in Germany from 1931 to 1938. It’s a sturdy and very practical metal box with three focus zones and three aperture settings. The distance scale is in meters. The shutter is a fixed speed somewhere around 1/30. These all had the Goerz Frontar 1:11 11 cm lens. In 1937 the basic design was modified with a sliding cover for the film window on the back.
This camera is fun to use and the various settings give you a good deal of flexibility.
I took this well-used old Box Tengor camera to Beavertail State Park on the Rhode Island coast. I think this is some of the most beautiful coastal scenery in New England, rivaling some of Maine’s beautiful vistas.
I took these photos with HP5+ film, and developed them in Rodinal 1+50.
